23rd May // Commissioned – Day 23 // Our Common Mission
Reading – Luke 4:18-19
When my big brother and I were younger we loved to adventure. In fact we had a wee team made up of about six people from our estate. Our goal? To discover the unknown in our surrounding area. We created what we called ‘Mystery Tours’. Each time somebody lead the expedition and it was their chance to push the boundaries of pioneering to a new level. Through ditches, over fences, into water, up dark tunnels, through fields occupied by bulls, over building sites while setting challenges for each other, we tried all we could think of. It usually resulted in us landing home soaking wet, covered in muck with a few bumps and bruises (sometimes worse injuries) much to our parents displeasure … Our mission was simple – daringly explore the unknown.
I have to admit, I still love to adventure and have discovered God likes it too! Your story isn’t just about what God has taken you from. We absolutely praise God for all He has done in our lives: removing us from darkness to light, forgiving our sin, filling us with His love, joy and peace to name a few things! But your story isn’t just about where you have come out of, but also what you are going on to. You are called, destined, anointed, sent of God and equipped for the most exhilarating, worthy, purposeful mission known to man.
Jesus said these words: The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
WOW! This is God’s mission and mandate for every believer. Every morning that God gives us breath we awake as ambassadors with God’s mission and message of forgiveness, life, hope, healing, restoration, joy, wholeness and so much more for all those we come into contact with every day. Life becomes an incredible adventure when we say each day, “Yes Lord, here am I, send me!” Who knows what God has in store for you today, but be sure that a life led by God’s Spirit is one that will leave a lasting impact into eternity.
Let’s go adventure!
