Rising From The Ruins – Day 5 – The Science Of Opposition

READ Nehemiah 2:19-20

I don’t remember much from my school days but strangely I do remember this; to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Basic science rests on the principle of opposition. So for example when our hand presses against an object when we touch it, the object pushes back otherwise our hand would disappear through it like we were touching a hologram.

The tension of opposition is all throughout our natural world but it is also present in the spiritual realm. When we sit still spiritually speaking, and don’t seek to advance the kingdom of God, we will have a relatively easy life. But the moment we set ourselves to progress, opposition will rise. FACT! However to be forewarned is to be forearmed. When we anticipate opposition, it won’t catch us off guard. We are ready for it and are able to define it exactly as it is – proof of our progress.

Nehemiah experienced this. He had just set out on his task from God when opposition appeared in the form of 2 men, Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite. Only 2 men against the masses but isn’t it amazing how loudly negativity can shout, even if it is in the minority. Haven’t there been times in your life when one voice of opposition has tied you up for weeks? You can’t escape its mockery. Sometimes the lies and threats of the enemy resound much louder than the truth. But here’s the thing you must remember, he only has a bark, no bite.

You see while Nehemiah’s enemy was stamping and threatening, huffing and puffing, they had no power. Sanballat and Tobiah had a lot to say, but absolutely no authority; neither of them was inside the covenant God had made with the Jews, and Nehemiah told them as much.

If you want to make a difference in this world you must know 2 things.

  1. The enemy will come against you.
  2. He is devoid of authority outside of that which you give him.

Don’t let fear have the final say. Rise up, be strong and move forward.

God make me strong in the face of spiritual opposition, for if you are for me who can be against me. Amen.
