11th May // Freed – Day 11 // Freedom From Satan’s Power

Reading – Col:13-14

God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of His Son whom He loves. His Son paid the price to free us, which means that our sins are forgiven

Colossae was a small city in Asia about 100 miles from Ephesus. It was located right in the middle of a trade route and this would have meant that a large range of religions and philosophies were widely discussed. The church in Colossae had come to faith through one of their own, Epaphras, and whilst Paul had heard good things about them he was concerned that as new believers they would be taken in by the other false religions and teachings that they would encounter on a daily basis and so he wrote them this letter.

For anyone who has ever studied Colossians you will know that the theme of this book is that we as believers are complete in Christ. And in the verses above Paul declares that the reason we can stand complete in Christ is because God has freed us from satan’s power by rescuing us from the power of darkness and transferring us into the kingdom of his Son. To be freed means that we are no longer bound or in slavery; just think about what this really means for your everyday walk with God. If you are a believer satan has absolutely no hold on you; no hold on your thoughts, no hold on your emotions, no hold on your future. And the thing is, satan knows that he has no hold over you but do you? If you don’t, you will continue to walk in a bondage and oppression that Jesus died to save you from and that is not the plan your Heavenly Father has for your life.

Paul knew that if the church in Colossae could truly grasp this truth then they would be able to withstand anything that came their way. Today if your sins are forgiven you are a child of God and you are free from satan’s power. Your transfer from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light is absolute and you stand complete in Christ. Satan has NO hold on you! So live today in the truth of that.
