25th May // Commissioned – Day 25 // Our Unique Mission

Reading – Jeremiah 1:5 // Ephesians 2:10

Accidents happen. Or at least that is what I tell myself when I am trying to excuse my clumsiness. If something needs to be spilt, dropped or broken then I’m your girl! The word ‘accident’ implies that something happens by chance or without a deliberate plan. And with that in mind while accidents certainly happen around me they absolutely do not happen around God because God has a plan.

Do you know that you have been born with a God given purpose for your life? Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that before we are even born God knows us and sets us apart for His holy purposes. To each one of us He has given a unique mission. God has something for you to do. It’s one of the reasons you are alive. However all too often we can fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others. In our eyes God’s plan for other people can seem easy to see, completely obvious, while we struggle to find His purpose for our own lives.

Ephesians 2:10 says ‘For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them’. Do you see that? The purpose for your life is there already prepared waiting for you to walk into it. Someone once explained this verse to me like this: God’s purpose for your life is you being you the way He created you to be and in the place where He wants you to be. And I think that it really is that simple. You don’t have to worry that you will miss it or live your whole life never knowing what it is. If your heart is open towards God and you want to know His plan for you, God will show you. Just be you the way He has created you to be wherever He has placed you. He has placed all of us in families, communities, churches and work places. There is only one of you and your life is not an accident. You were planned by Almighty God so that you would walk into and complete the unique mission He has prepared for you.
