Two Are Better Than One
By Kerry Capper
One day, my family and I decided to go up North. We went home by the coastal route. As we were driving alongside the water, everyone in the car was quiet so I was just looking over the sea with the sun shining, (a rare occasion in Northern Ireland!) and this thought popped into my mind.
‘How are waves ACTUALLY formed?’
In each wave there are many tiny water particles which join together and nothing can get in their way! In fact, anything that gets in the way has the potential to be completely consumed. So for example, if a stone gets in the way of the wave, the wave will engulf the stone and sweep it up. The wave doesn’t divert around the rock.
If we transfer this thought into our own lives, it could change the dynamic of our lives and the community’s that we are involved in.
It says in Ecclesiastes 4 v 9-12, ‘Two are better than one, because they have good return for their labour; if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.’
If we go through life doing things our own way, trying to make it in our own strength and by ourselves, it won’t work. Similarly, if we get up in the morning and put on our ‘mask’ to cover up what we are struggling with and keep it to ourselves without telling anyone else, just bottling it all up inside us, we will end up taking it out on people who are undeserving of it, never actually dealing with, or progressing past our problems. It is important that you find people who you can trust, and who God has placed in your life, to help you through the different struggles in life. We were created to have community with other people. We need it!
If, like the water particles, God’s people stick together and help each other out, even humbling ourselves to ask for help whenever we need it, we have the potential to make an even greater impact to the people around us and change lives for the better of God’s Kingdom! Just like the wave, together we can overcome the obstacles in our way.
Just recently I have witnessed this in my own life. I have been praying on my own for a particular breakthrough to happen for a number of years now, and over time when nothing seemed to be happening I asked a few people I trust to pray about it with me. Just recently, I have seen a positive impact and move of God in this situation and I’m really starting to get excited and expectant for what is to come. I believe that this is because other people got on board and prayed into this situation alongside me, and God has heard our prayers!
You see when you join together with other people, who you know are with you throughout this journey in life, you can experience breakthrough with the power of prayer together!
